UNIVERSAL CLAMP

A universal clamp, also known as a universal coupling or universal joint, is a mechanical device used to connect two shafts or rods at an angle while allowing them to rotate independently of each other. It is commonly used in various applications, such as machinery, vehicles, and other mechanical systems, where flexibility in movement and torque transmission is required.

The universal clamp consists of two yokes or forks connected by a cross-shaped member, forming a "cross-and-u" configuration. Each yoke has a socket or pin at its ends to hold the shafts or rods. The cross-shaped member allows the yokes to pivot independently of each other, enabling rotational movement even when the connected shafts are not aligned perfectly.

The main purpose of a universal clamp is to transmit rotational motion and torque between non-collinear shafts. It is often used in drivetrains to transfer power between the engine and wheels in vehicles or in industrial machinery where the shafts need to be connected at an angle.
